The mottos of "walk lightly on the land" and "leave no trace" have been part of hiking lore and wilderness advice for a long time. As our global population soars from 6 to 9 billion in the years ahead, we must also lighten our community footsteps with water, electricity and fuel. The goal may be out of reach at this moment, but working towards independence from the grid will benefit all.
